Valsgarde Splint

Valsgarde (1)Here is a set of splint roughly based off the splint found in the Valsgarde burials up in Sweden. This is a piece where I experimented with case hardening 1.6mm mild strips. it seems to have turned out well.

The originals were articulated it seems on two leather strips, but the client wanted a solid leather backing, along with several modifications. Some people say the little wiggly bits near the wrist are meant to be dragon heads, but that’s their interpretation.

You can read more about the originals here: http://thethegns.blogspot.co.nz/2011/12/splinted-armour.html
